I have decided to turn my news channel off. I will not fill my living room up with hate and despair any longer. Will that make all the problems of the world go away? No. But I do not have to invite them into my home front and center. I’m going to decide to care at a distance. Can I jump in my car and head to Ukraine to end any of the senseless bullshit that is going on over there? No. Can I call up Putin and tell him to stop bullying them just because he can? No. So why am I starting my day, within minutes of waking up, with debates, photos, and videos of war scenes?
There have been some very bad people throughout history. People that have done horrendous crimes against innocent people. There always have been, and there always will be. I choose not to give them the attention they demand. Hate breeds hate. Fear breeds fear. Violence breeds violence. No, deranged and power-hungry psycho, I will not allow you to disrupt my day or your name to be spoken in my home. You don’t deserve the attention. The news repeats the same news every day but only tells the story a little differently each time just to keep you engaged. Death. Destruction. Violence. Sickness. Greed. It’s the same every day. We know it exists. It will still exist even though we don’t watch it or listen to it on the news. Stop treating the news like a religion. It is all perspective. It is the person telling the story that is conveying what they want you to feel. It is all smoke and screens. They don’t want to talk about all the good in the world because that would be too boring. No one would watch.
I choose to start each day with silence. Calm. Inspiration. Beauty. Gratefulness. Does that mean I’m ignorant? Not on your life. I just pick and choose what is important for my mental health and well-being. I will not follow the multitudes and I will not spread lies and fear just to get attention. May God bless all of us, and give us the strength to carry on while seeing the good on this beautiful green earth.
I stopped listening to the news also. I would wonder why after watching it I would get a headache or a stomach ache and just feel out of sorts and I figured out it’s all the mayhem I was listening to. I’m not trying to ignore the problems this world is having but I also have to put myself and mental health first and watching the news put that in jeopardy so no more for this chic!!!!
